Big loss for The Shire

Gloucestershire Cricket Club today announced an annual loss of £167,000, its the second season in a row that Gloucestershire has made an annual loss.

Despite this departing Chairman John Light insists that it will not affect the plans to redevelop The County Ground. The club has blamed low gate receipts and the poor weather that hit the Cheltenham festival which usually is very lucrative for the club.

John Light said to TIB: "We are determined in our aim to continue to bring international cricket to Bristol.

"We are looking at student accommodation and looking at the possibility of residential accommodation.

"Every avenue is being vigorously explored."

The plan is for the £10 million project to be funded by building housing on site and will see an increase in permanent seating from 3,668 to 10,000, raising the international capacity of the ground to 20,000.
