Vaughan 'Staggered' at KP Decision

Former England Captain Michael Vaughan has been left shocked at Kevin Pietersen's decision to remove himself from England's one day set up, ahead of the World T20 later this year....

Pietersen was forced to resign from both the one day and T20 England teams, when he informed the ECB that he was no longer able to commit to the 50 over format.

His contract stated that should that be the case, then his wish to continue in the shortest form of the game, would be rejected.

It is a decision that has left Vaughan descibing the choice as 'staggering'.

"For Kevin Pietersen to suddenly drop that in, in the summer, with the World Twenty20 just three months away, I find staggering," he told BBC Sport.

"I would have thought if you are going to go, why not go on until the end of the World Twenty20? Unfortunately, England will go into that tournament without their best player."

"The one-day and T20 skippers - Alastair Cook and Stuart Broad - will have heard the news and thought 'oh no, please tell me that's not true" Vaughan concluded.

Pietersen was man of the tournament as England triumphed in the last T20 world cup, out in the West Indies, and he had hoped his appeal to continue in just this form, would have fell on more understanding ears.
