Firstly, tonight's Members' Forum, the first of the year. It is taking place place in the Pavilion at the County Ground, Chelmsford and starts at 7:30pm. Bring your Membership Card with you. New Head Coach, Graham Gooch, is among the panel and 'Scimitars' will be there to report all the events and will be bringing you a summary here in the next couple of days. I will be asking about the Flower situation, a story we brought to you here at 'Scimitars' last week.

The other main bit of news to come from Essex this week is a new sponsorship deal with Shepherd Neame. Shepherd Neame are a Faversham (Kent) based brewery and have been sponsoring 'The Essex Cricket League and the county's tracksuit wear for some time now, but this deal, thought to be around a six-figure sum, will see Shepherd Neame now displayed on Essex's Norwich Union League shirts for the next five years.

Also this week, tickets for the Essex vs India game at Chelmsford between Wed 14th-Sat 17th August, 2002, went on sale. More news on those details can be found on the '2002 Tickets' page, either here or on the link on the right-hand menu bar.

Nasser Hussain and James Foster have also been playing for England in the 3rd Test defeat in New Zealand, meaning the series finished level at 1-1. 'Scimitars' has been reporting all week of the news, which you can find on the 'front page' or in the 'story index'.

Coming up later today on 'Scimitars', new fast bowling signing Joe Grant has been speaking to the Ilford Recorder. The interview and news from the paper involving Essex coming-up. There has also been a couple of new site additions, these being the 'Around The Network' menu (found below the right-hand nav bar, which shows latest news around SportNetwork) and also that the 'Latest Headlines' on the front page has been extended from 5 to 10 stories so that news can still be seen and clicked on to read. The site gets updated daily and so this extension helps with news and stories you might not have seen.

Sadly, 'Scimitars' has to report of another tragic loss to the game. Sussex player Umer Rashid and his brother both drowned over the weekend while Sussex were on tour. It comes just a week after the death of Ben Hollioake and like Ben, Umer was just begining to realise his potential. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the Rashid family and Sussex CCC.
