Brown and Butcher shine

Surrey had a good start to their county championship match against Leicestershire at Grace Road. Ali Brown and Mark Butcher both scored centuries and as Surrey reached 454 for 6 at stumps. Skipper Adam Hollioake and Rikki Clarke both chipped in with half centuries.

Surrey won the toss and decided to bet. Ian Ward and Jon Batty then put on 61 for the first wicket. Surrey then slipped to 74 for 3. But a massive stand off 211 between Ali Brown and Mark Butcher put Surrey in control. Brown scored 104 off just 97 balls with two sixes and 16 fours, while Butcher scored 116 off 170 balls with 21 fours. Adam Hollioake then smashed 80 off just 74 balls and Rikki Clarke was 52 not out at stumps.
