After bowling Hampshire out for 190 yesterday Surrey started the day batting. Ian Ward and Scott Newman then put on a massive 198 for the first wicket. Newman hit 99 but he was dropped twice once by Robin Smith at mid on for 43 off Udal then Udal dropped Newman off his bowling for 59. Although he was dropped he played some marvelous shoots which included a huge straight six off Udal. This was a great debut for him. Ian Ward also hit a six of Udal in his chance less innings of 87. Ward is now on great form and an England call is not far away. Mark Ramprakash then scored 38 before he was caught by John Francis off Udal in the last over before tea. Ali Brown then hit four sixes in his 1o3 off just 116 balls. Jon Batty was not out 36 stumps. Surrey are firmly and the championship is not far away.
