Surrey clamed the runners-up spot in the NUL division two with a 79 run victory over the Gloucestershire gladiators. Graham Thorpe hit 114 as Surrey reached 263 for 8 off their 45 overs. Adam Hollioake then took 4 wickets as Gloucestershire were bowled out for 184.

Surrey won the toss and decided to bat. Mike Smith then took three wickets and Jon Lewis took one as Surrey were reduced to 58 for 4. Graham Thorpe and Captain Adam Hollioake then put on 82 for the fifth wicket. Hollioake reached 38 when he was caught by Matt Windows off Jo Angel. Thorpe went on to make a brilliant 114 off just 105 balls with 14 fours. This is good news for England a Graham Thorpe needs form for the Ashes. Jon Batty and Ian Salisbury made useful scores to push the lions score to 263 for 8 off their 45 overs.

Craig Spearman and Jack Russel then gave Gloucestershire a good start with their opening stand. Spearman scored 37 while Russsel hit 31. Matt Windows also scored 37 but after this the Gloucestershire innings fell apart. Adam Hollioake took four wickets and Ed Giddins and Mark Ramprakash both took two as Gloucestershire were bowled out for 184.
