2003 SEASON PREVIEW

Surrey will be looking to claim their fourth championship title in five years as they start their campaign on Friday against Lancashire at Home. Adam Holliokae will again lead the lions and Keith Meddlycott will coach the first team.

Surrey have signed just two player over the winter. James Benning has signed a full time contract after spending last year in the second eleven. Bennning is an all rounder and last season he played for the England under nineteen’s. He will hope to follow in the footsteps of Rikki Clarke and Scott Newman. Surrey have also signed Azhar Mahmood as a second oversees player. Mahmood played for Surrey last season while Saqlain Mushtaq was away on international duty. Mahmood impressed in the time that he spent at Surrey and therefore Maddlycott has decided to retain his services.

In the winter surrey have lost four players. Youngster Michael Carberry has joined rivals Kent. Bowler Ed Giddins has joined Hampshire. Young spinner Rupish Amin has joined Leicestershire while Jason Radcliffe has retired because of injury.

This season Alex Stewart has been awarded a testimonial year and a list of events will be put up shortly.
