Massive win for lions

Surrey completed a comprehensive 135 run win over Warwickshire today at Edgbaston. Saqlain Mushtaq took 5 wickets as the bears made 425 all out. Captain Michael Powell top scored for the bears with 91 and England hopeful Ian Bell scored 71.

Surrey made 355 in their first innings with Captain Adam Hollioake making 88 and Alec Stewart made 74. Warwickshire could only manage 245 in their reply with Dougie Brown making 61 and Azhar Mahmood taking 4 for 61. Surrey then slipped to 20 for 1 in their second innings but Mark Butcher and Mark Rampraksh put on 187 for the second wicket to leave Surrey 207 for 2. Butcher hit his second century in as many games with 118 and Mark Rampraksh hit a suburb 182 not out. He was just 18 away form a double century when Hollioake made a surprise declaration. Stewart (45), Holliokae (30) and Mahmood (50) helped Surrey reach 450 for 5. Surrey had reached this total off just 82 overs. Holliokae had set Warwickshire a huge 561 to win.

The bears then lost Nick Night early as he was trapped lbw to Bicknell for 8. Michael Powell and Mark Wagh then put on 99 for the second wicket. Wagh had made 51 when he was caught behind by Stewart off the bowling of Adam Hollioake. England hopeful Ian Bell then came to the crease and put on 50 with Powell. Powell then fell for an excellent 91 when Ormond bowled him. Bell then added 105 with Jonathan Trott. Trott then fell lbw to a Hollioake slower ball. Just three runs later and Surrey had the danger man Bell out for 71. Bell was trying to hit Saqlain over mid wicket but failed and Salisbury caught him. At the end of day three Warwickshire were 304 for 5. They still required another 257 runs to win. Just half an hour in to play and Saqlain had another wicket. This time he bowled Warwickshire wicket keeper Frost for 12. Wagg quickly followed for 4 when he was caught by the sub fielder Brown off Saqlain. Shortly after Saqlain clamed his fourth wicket f the innings. This time he had smith caught by Salisbury for 8. The bears were now 351 for 8. Brown was still batting but he was running out of partners. Neil Carter then reached 11 before he fell lbw to Salisbury. Surrey now only needed one wicket for victory. Dougie Brown then managed to reach his second half-century of the match. Waqar Younis gave him support by scoring 30. But with the score on 425 Saqlain clamed his fifth wicket of the innings when he had Brown caught by Thorpe for 61. Surrey had won by 135 runs.
