Surrey won the first ever tweny20 cup after they beat Warwickshire by 9 wickets. Ian Ward and Ali Brown put on 100 for the first wicket as the lions completed a comfortable victory.

Before the final could be played Surrey had to beat Gloucestershire in the second semi final of the day. The first semi final was won by Warwickshire who beat Leicestshre. Surrey won the toss and decided to bat. Ian Ward made 49 as the lions scored a disappointing 147 for 9. This total did not look enough agianst the gladiators who were the favorites for the tournament.
James Ormond then removed stand in Gloucestershire captain Craig Spearman early on for 1. Azhar Mahmood then removed Rhodes for a first ball duck. Gloucestershire were 5 for 2. Mahmood then took the key wicket of Ian Harvey for just 7. Gloucestershire were 17 for 3. Alex Gidman the scored an excellent 61. He looked to have wont he match for Gloucestershire when he was bowled by Mahmood but this was not to be the case as Surrey won by just 5 runs. Surrey were now in the final against Warwickshire.
James Ormond then removed the Warwickshire top order to leave the bears 22 for 3. Mahmood then removed Bell to leave the bears 32 for 4. Ormond then had his forth wicket when he had Brown caught behind for 0. Trevor Penny (33) and Tony Frost (31) helped the bears reach a disappointing 115 all out.
Ian Ward and Ali Brown the came out and hit the bears all round the park. Ward smashed 50 off only 28 balls with 8 fours and one six while Brown scored 55 off just 34 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes. When Ward was dismissed by Wagg the lions need just 16 runs for victory. This did not take them long as Mark Ramprakash hit the winning four off Nick Knight. Surrey had reached their total off just 10.5 overs. Surrey won the first ever twenty20 cup by 9 wickets. Surrey now hope to completed the treble by winning the championship and the national league.
