Rain forces draw

Rain meant that the game between Surrey and Middlesex ended in a draw. This was the first ever draw at Guildford. David Nash continued his excellent form with 96 not out as Middlesex made 385 all out in their first innings.

Surrey made 411 all out in their first innings with Rikki Clarke making 85. Middlesex openers Andrew Strauss and Sven Keoing then put on 101 for the first innings. But Surrey then took 3 quick wickets to leave Middlesex 165 for 3. Jimmy Ormond then had Hutton caught behind for 2. Next ball Ormond trapped Joyce leg before wicket for a golden duck. On his hatrick ball Ormond clean bowled Weekes. This was Ormond’s first ever first class hatrick. Abdur Razzaq and Nash then pot on 155 to help Middlesex to 320 for 6. But when on 78 Razzaq was caught by Ward off Bicknell. Saqlain Mushatq then caught and bowled Noffke for 18 to leave the crusaders, 346 for 8 at the end of day 2. Heavy rain then meant that all of Day 3 was washed out. On day four Surrey did mange to bowl Middlesex out for 385 with Nash left stranded on 96.

Surrey then scored 94 for no wicket, when the game was called a draw. But John Batty had to retire hurt after being hit on the head twice by Ashley Noffke
