Surrey trash Yorkshire by an innings.

Surrey thrashed rivals Yorkshire in the county championship at Headingley. But Surrey then lost to Middlesex and Hampshire in the Benson and Hedges cup.

Surrey beat Yorkshire in there crutial county championship match at Headingly.

Surrey got off to the perfect start by dismissing Yorkshire for just 140, with Alex Tudor taking 4 and Azhar Mahmood taking 3 wickets. For Yorkshire Michel Lumb was the only batsmen to trouble Surrey with 30.

Then Mark Butcher (83) and Ian Ward (70) put on 161for the first wicket. Then Alec Stewart (96) and Mark Ramprakash (65) put on 137 to strengthen Surrey’s position. Then Nadeem Sahid made a useful 45 and Azhar Mahmood continued his good all round form by making an excellent 64.


Surrey then had to then bowl two overs to Yorkshire before the close of play and were able to get two wickets. First Martin Bicknell removed Matthew Wood and then in the final over Alex Tudor removed Simon Richardson. Rain then delayed the start of day three but after lunch Surrey were on top form and bowled Yorkshire out for 202 with Martin Bicknell and Azhar Mahmood taking 3 wickets and James Ormond and Alex Tudor taking 2 wickets. For Yorkshire Chris Taylor (52) and Chris Silverwood (38) put up some late resistance for Yorkshire and Surrey eased to an innings and 168 run victory.

Then on Sunday Surrey traveled to Lords to play rivals Middlesex in the B and H cup. Surrey started badly and never recovered. They quickly fell 59/5 with Stewart, Rampraksh and Brown all falling quickly. Surrey was all out for just 123 with Mark Butcher the only batsmen to make a stand with 51. Middlesex knocked off the runs in 30.2 overs with just under 20 overs remaining. O A Shah top scoring with 50.

Then today Surrey played Hampshire in the B and H cup. Hampshire made 243 all out with James Ormond taking 3 wickets and Azhar Mahmood, Alex Tudor and Ian Salisbury all taking 2 wickets. For Hampshire Robin Smith got 64 Neil Johnson got 46 and Derek Kenway got 40. Then in the Surrey innings Alec Stewart scored 52, Mark Ramprakash scored 39 and Azhar Mahmood scored 50 but it was all in vain as Hampshire spinner Shaun Udal took 4 wickets and Hampshire won by 1 run in a tense finish.
