First defeat for lions

Surrey lost their first county championship match of the season and now have work to do if they are to win the county championship. Surrey could only manage 138 all out in their second innings with Ali Brown top scoring with 61.

Surrey lost their first county championship match of the season and now have work to do if they are to win the county championship. Surrey could only manage 138 all out in their second innings with Ali Brown top scoring with 61.

Surrey resumed day four on 137 for 8. Lancashire only needed 1.1 overs to take the two reaming Surrey wickets. Surrey could only manage to add one run and were bowled out for a poor 138 with Gary Keedy taking for wickets and Ali Brown top scoring for the lions with 61. Surrey had only set Lancashire 134 runs to win. The lions had to take early wickets. But they could not do this. Mark Chilton and Ian Sutcliffe then put on 69 for the first wicket. Chilton and Currie then took the score to 92 when Currie was caught and bowled by Salisbury for 13. Surrey could not take any more wickets and Lancashire won by a comfortable margin of 8 wickets.
