Surrey beat Lancashire at the AMP oval.

Surrrey beat Lancashire at the AMP oval. First in the county championship and then in the National league. Mark Ramprakash led Surrey to victory on both occasions.

Lancashire started well in the match with Mark Chilton and Alec Swann putting on 31. But then Alex Tudor took 2 wickets to balance the match. Then Andy Flintoff scored a brilliant 137 off just 106 balls. Flintoff then went for one to many big hits off Ian Salisbury and was stumped by Alec Stewart. Lancashire was all out for 320.

Surrey started badly falling to 92 for 7 but solid partnerships allowed them to reach 164 for 9 still needing 7 to avoid the follow on. A last wicket stand of 52 between Alex Tudor and James Ormond avoided the follow on.

Then in their second innings Lancashire were all out for 200. On his last match for the club Azhar Mahmood produced an amazing spell of bowling taking the first 8 wickets. James Ormond then took the last 2 wickets leaving Surrey needing 305 to win.

Surrey started of well with an opening partnership of 41 with Mark Butcher and Ian Ward. Ward scored 37 and Alec Stewart scored 46 to help Surrey. But it Mark Ramprakash who led Surrey to victory with a magnificent 119.

Then on Sunday Surrey played Lancashire again in the Norwich union league.

Surrey again came out winners but this time it was a much easier victory.

Lancashire won the toss and chose to bat but soon were left ruing their decision as they were reduced to 36 for 4. Then Michael Carberry took a stunning catch to dismiss Stuart Law off the bowling off Martin Bicknell, Lancashire were 39 for 5. Lancashire did not recover and were all out for just 68. Martin Bicknell took 5 for 26 and Ed Giddins and Phil Sampson both took 2 wickets, which included a stunning one handed catch to dismiss Warren Hegg.

Surrey knocked off their target in just 11.5 overs with Mark Ramprakash top scoring with 18 not out.
