Surrey and Somerset remain unbeaten

Surrey and Somerset remained unbeaten yesterday when they drew their county championship match at the AMP Oval yesterday. Ian Ward passed sixty in both innings for Surrey and Ian Blackwell scored 98 fo Somerset.

Surrey and Somerset drew in their match at the oval yesterday.

Surrey won the toss and decided to bat. Mark Butcher and Mark Ramprakash both were out in single figures as surrey slumped to 2 for 7. Graham Thorpe (19) and Ali Brown (30) moved Surrey passed 100. But it was Ian Ward who shone for Surrey with 62. Alex Tudor, Ian Sailsbury and Saqlain Mushtag all scored above 20 to help Surrey to 220 all out.

Alex Tudor was in top form as he removed the Somerset top three. But Ian Blackwell and Rob Turner put on 106 to help Somerset to 217 for 6. Martin Bicknell then removed Turner, Dutch and Bulbeck to leave Somerset all out for 253 all out, 33 runs ahead of Surrey.

Somerset then took 3 wickets to leave Surrey 87 for 3 at he close of play on Saturday. But heavy rain-washed out all of Sunday’s play to leave the match poised for a draw.

Surrey’s night watchman Ian Salisbury was removed early on by Matthew Bulbeck for 4 leaving Surrey 91 for 4. Ian Ward then scored 67 to slash Somerset’s chances of winning. Useful knocks from Ali Brown 48, Alec Stewart 53, Alex Tudor 44 and Martin Bicknell 35 left Surrey all out for 332.

Somerset then had to bat for just 10 overs and were 45 for 1, with Alex Tudor removing Markus Trescothick for 12.
