Adams puts Sussex on top

Chris Adams hit 101 to leave Sussex in control and Surrey struggling after day two of their county championship match at the Brit Oval. Sussex reached 445 for 9 at the close of play with former Surrey player Ian Ward also in the runs.

Sussex started the day on 75 for no wicket with Ward and Montgomerie at the crease, but early into the day’s play Montgomerie fell to Bicknell for 25. Goodwin followed soon for just 2 when he was caught by Brown with Azhar Mahmood the bowler. Former Surrey player Ward was joined by Adams and together they pilled on the runs for the Sharks. Ward fell 18 short of a century when he was trapped lbw to Murtagh. Adams went on to complete a century and received useful help from Tim Ambrose who scored 56. Matt Prior, Robin Martin Jenkins and Jason Lewry all hit useful scores to take the Sharks to 445 for 9 at the close. Tim Murtagh was the pick of the Surrey bowlers as he took three wickets.
