Hollioake blasts centuary

Adam Hollioake blasted 106 as Surrey had the better of day two of their county championship match against rivals Middlesex at Lords. Holliokae received useful help from Ian Salisbury as Surrey claimed full batting points as they reached 416 all out.

Surrey began the day badly after James Benning failed to add to his overnight score of 20 when he was bowled by Paul Hutchison to give the Middlesex seamer his first wicket for the club on his debut. Hutchison then added two more wickets to his Middlesex tally in quick succession. First he had Brown caught behind for 18 and then had Ramprakash also caught behind for 29. Azhar Mahmood did not last for long and when he was out Surrey were struggling at 253 for 6. However Hollioake and Salisbury put on 125 to save the lions. Hollioake hit his first century of the season off just 129 balls with thirteen fours and one six. This was an excellent knock by the former captain, who is retiring at the end of the season. After Hollioake was dismissed, Saqlain Muustaq and James Ormond followed in quick succession. However Tim Murtagh shared in a useful partnership of 34 with Salisbury, which helped Surrey reach the final batting point. Salisbury was finally dismissed for 77 when he was caught by Hayward with Chad Keegan the bowler. Keegan was the pick of the Middlesex bowlers as he managed to claim a five-wicket haul.

Azhar Mahmood then made an early breakthrough as he trapped South
African Sven Koenig leg before wicket for 1. Ben Hutton and stand in Middlesex captain Owais Shah shared in a massive 171 stand for the crusaders. Just before the close of play Hutton fell for 78 as the was bowled by Salisbury. Shah remained at the crease on 77 and will be looking to hit his first century of the season.
