First defeat for lions

Surrey suffered their first defeat in their opening game of the tote league as they were crushed by seven wickets at the hands of Glamorgan.

Surrey won the toss and decided to bat. However they were soon in trouble at 25 or 4 and further trouble at 36 for 7 as most batsmen played poor shots to give their wickets away. Andrew Davis benefited from the poor performance of the Surrey batsmen and claimed four wickets and Australian Michael Kasprowicz picked up three. Ian Salisbury and Saqlain Mushtaq put up some resistance for the lions and together they put on 64. Tim Murtagh and Salisbury added a useful 43 for the last wicket as Surrey managed to reach 146 all out. This partnership allowed Salisbury to complete his maiden limited overs half-century. He ended up unbeaten on 59 as Murtagh fell to Dale for 13.

Surrey needed an early breakthrough and Azhar Mahmood gave them two. Firstly he trapped Croft leg before wicket and then Wharf played a poor shot to gift Saqlain Mushtaq an easy catch. At 11 for 2 the dragons were struggling. Matt Elliott and Michael Powell then put on a massive stand of 124 to guide Glamorgan to victory. Surrey did managed to dismiss Powell as he was bowled by Murtagh but this was to late as he had already scored an excellent 64. Matt Elliott top scored with 69 not out as Glamoragn completed an easy seven-wicket victory with over 20 overs to spare.
