Surrey have axed skipper John Batty and appointed Mark Butcher as the new captain. Mark Ramprakash will remain as vice captain and will take charge when Bucher is away on international duty. Batty had only held the position for one season after taking over from Adam Hollioake.

Butcher said “Surrey have been part of my life since I can remember and being awarded the captaincy is a huge honour”.

Batty said I am disappointed but I hope there might be another opportunity to the captain the club in the future”.

Steve Rixon decided to give Batty the axe after a disappointing season where Surrey did not win any trophies. They were knocked out in the first round of the C and G cub by Ireland, suffered relation in the tote sport league and finished third in the county championship.
