Surrey win in C and G cup

Surrey deafeated Sussex by 14 runs to move into the semifinals of the C and G trophy. Surrey skipper hit 117 of just 59 balls to guid his team to victory.

Surrey beat Sussex at Hove today to move In to the C and G trophy semi-finals.

Adam Hollioake won the toss ad decided to bat. Ian Ward and Ali Brown gave Surrey a solid start by putting on 39 for the first wicket. But Martin Jenkins took two quick wickets to leave Surrey 48 for 2. But another century stand between Mark Ramprakash and Rikki Clarke left Surrey on 189 for three. Ramprakash continued his excellent form and scored 103 not out. But the hero of the Surrey innings was Adam Hollioake who smacked 117 off just 59 balls. His innings contained 5 sixes and 11 fours. Surrey scored a massive 337 of their 50 overs.

Tim Ambrose and Rihard Montgomerie gave Sussex the good start they needed by putting on 55 for the first wicket. Then Montgomerie shared in another good stand of 72 with Captain Chris Adams. Adams was then caught behind off the bowling of Clarke this left Sussex 127 for 2. When Montgomerie was out for 88 Sussex were 238 for 4. Although Goodwin scored 110 and Prior hit 34 Sussex were 14 runs short of Surrey total.
