Draw not good enough

Surrey are still in the relegation zone after a draw with Hampshire at the Brit Oval. The was the most likely result after day one was washed out. Surrey are now two points a drift of rivals Middlesex after they drew with Kent.

Day Three

Hampshire resumed on 28 for 2, with John Crawley and Shane Watson at the crease. They took the score to 112 in a stand of 107. Crawley fell for 52, while Watson made 88. Nic Pothas top scored for Hampshire with 100 not as he shared of 12 with Dimitri Mascarenhas, who made 49 not out as the hawks declared on 361 for 6, a move which will frustrate Surrey as it prevented them from claiming a third bowling point. Surrey were 7 for no wicket at the close with Scott Newman on 7 not out and Richard Clinton 0 not out at the crease.

Day Four

Surrey resumed on 7 for no wicket with Newman and Clinton at the crease. Newman fell early on without any runs being added to the overnight score. Clinton and Ramprakash then added 93. Clinton scored 51 while Ramprakash made 37. However they were both dismissed with the score on 100. Butcher (45), Batty (33) and Brown (42) all failed to capitalise on good starts. Tim Murtgah continued his good batting form with 44 not out as the lions were bowled out for 302, as the match was called a draw.
