Surrey leave sex' in spin

Ian Salisbury and Saqlain Mushtaq both calmed three wickets as Surrey beat rivals Middlesex by an innings and 39 runs at the Oval. However the lions are still relegated after failing on day two to reach a target of 400 for 2. The lions bowled Middlesex out for 243 with Dalrymple top scoring with 75.
The day started with Ramprakash bringing up his 250. However when on 252 he was bowled by Owais Shah. This ended a stand of 318 with Azhar Mahmood, a record for the Surrey fifth wicket. Azhar continued to dominate against the Middlesex attack and reached 200, when Butcher finally declared with the score on 686 for 5. Ali Brown, batting in a cap, scored some quick late runs with 30 not out.
Middlesex lost Smith early as he was trapped leg before wicket to Akram for 7. Hutton and Scott took the score to 51 when Scott was hit by a rising ball from Clarke and was caught at slip. Clarke also removed Hutton as he mis timed a pull shot and was caught brilliantly by Salisbury at the square leg boundary. The spinners then got to work as Saqalin and Salisbury each took three wickets as the Sex’ slumped to 243 all out. This giving Surrey a win by an innings and 39 runs. However Surrey are still relegated to the second division as Middlesex finish just one point ahead of the lions.
