Benning and Newman hit form

Surrey had the upper hand of a draw against Durham UCCE in a pre season friendly at the Brit Oval. James Benning and Scott Newman both hit centuries and Mo Akram took 6 wickets as Surrey warmed up for the new season.
Surrey made a huge first innings score of 533 for 5, with Scott Newman (89), Mark Ramprakash (67) and Ali Brown (87) all hitting half centuries. James Benning top scored as he hit 122 from just 99 balls as he staked a claim for a regular first team spot. He was well supported by Ian Salisbury as they added an unbroken stand of 111 for the sixth wicket.
Mo Akram than took the first 3 wickets of the innings to leave the students 14 for 3. He completed his five wicket hall as he removed Morris and Wake. Ian Salisbury chipped in with three wickets as Durham Uni were bowled out for 277.
Surrey decided to gain the extra batting practice, instead of enforcing the follow on. Scott Newman used this time to hit 144 from just 125 balls. He and John Batty, who made 67, out on 187 for the first wicket.
