Nottinghamshire Overcome The Toothless Vikings
By Gary Watton
July 22 2013
Whilst Yorkshire were comprehensively defeating Australia at Lord's, the rest of the squad had the dubious pleasure of confronting Nottinghamshire in a Twenty20 contest. In the event, the visitors emerged as victors, assisted by a good innings from Australian David Hussey as well as awful bowling from Brooks and Sidebottom.
After Azeem Rafiq had won the toss and wisely elected to field first, Nottinghamshire helped themselves to a commendable 155 for 8. However, this total need not have been insurmountable, but Yorkshire's batting was high on perspiration but short on inspiration.
In the end, the hosts feebly fell 25 runs short in spite of conceding two less wickets, and thus disappears any remaining hopes of progressing beyond the group stage of the Twenty20 circus.
