A Double Helping From Our Seconds

Having been conquered twice by Durham's second eleven, the second string of Yorkshire have successfully overcome their equivalents from Nottinghamshire with two very different Twenty20 victories at Trent College. On the first occasion, the Tykes bowled their adversaries out cheaply, and in the second instance, the visitors remarkably reached a huge target off the very last ball.

In the opening skirmish, Ben Coad deserves much acclaim for bowling three overs which merely cost six runs, while pride of place must go to Richard Pyrah for a fine all-round display with both bat and ball.

Nottinghamshire second XI won the toss.

YORKSHIRE SECOND XI: 136 for 8 off 20 overs

Nottinghamshire second XI: 93 (Pyrah 4-13, Ashraf 4-19)

YORKSHIRE SECOND XI won by 43 runs. Nottinghamshire second XI 0 points, YORKSHIRE SECOND XI 2 points.

The second time around proved to be a case of deja-vu as the home team won the toss again and lost the subsequent contest again. They must be scratching their heads about the one that got away. It did after all look promising when Stephen Mullaney rampaged his way to a century in less than an hour. He can expect a call-up to the firsts for their forthcoming tussles after such bravado. On the receiving end were Pyrah and Robinson who conceded fifty-nine runs from five overs. Fortunately along came talented Jack Leaning to record the first-ever ton by a Yorkshire player in the second XI Twenty20 tournament. However, when Leaning was the ninth man to be dismissed, the away team were still twelve runs shy of the massive target. Nevertheless our tailenders, Ashraf and Carver sensationally helped their team over the finishing line, with two runs off the last ball. One will have to travel an awful long way past, present, and future to find a more exciting one-day encounter. Suffice to say that the spectators received their money's worth!

Nottinghamshire second XI won the toss.

Nottinghamshire second XI: 195 for 5 off 20 overs (Mullaney 103*)

YORKSHIRE SECOND XI: 196 for 9 off 20 overs (Leaning 102; Fletcher 3-33)

YORKSHIRE SECOND XI won by one wicket. Nottinghamshire second XI 0 points, YORKSHIRE SECOND XI 2 points.
