Another Excellent Innings Triumph

Even without four international players, a depleted Yorkshire still dished out another spanking of Warwickshire to ensure that the Tykes stay top of the County Championship. Since winning this league in 2012, Warwickshire have thrice been trounced by Yorkshire, including twice at Edgbaston and twice in 2014. Warwickshire must now be sick of the sight of high-flying Yorkshire.
The visitors can be immensely proud of conquering formidable Warwickshire inside three days, with all the bowlers chipping in with wickets, including our latest teenage prodigy, Karl Carver. Meanwhile there were several decent batting efforts too, especially from maiden centurion Aaron Finch. Consequently this truly was a team effort. Perhaps the only thing that the away team failed to excel at was the toss of the coin, but fortunately our impressive bowling unit negated the west Midlanders initial advantage. Bravo Yorkshire.
Warwickshire versus YORKSHIRE; at Edgbaston; June 22nd-24th; Warwickshire won the toss.
Warwickshire first innings: 228 (Patel 63*; Pyrah 3-37, Brooks 3-63)
YORKSHIRE first innings: 422 (Finch 110, Bairstow 68, Lees 64, Pyrah 62; Woakes 3-81)
Warwickshire second innings: 186 (Patterson 3-26, Sidebottom 3-31)
YORKSHIRE won by an innings and 8 runs. Warwickshire 3 points, YORKSHIRE 24 points.
Lyth - Adam could only muster eleven runs this time, but again he and Alex produced a decent first-wicket partnership, amounting to 31 runs.
Lees - AL set the tone for the innings with a more than useful 64. His efforts were much-needed in view of the early losses of Lyth and Leaning.
Leaning - Jack could not build upon the excellence of his performance down in Sussex, as he was dismissed for a duck egg, caught off the bowling of Chris Woakes.
Gale - Having failed again to win the toss, the captain almost cut loose with a fine forty-nine, before he was caught behind, just as a much bigger knock beckoned.
Bairstow - Jonny is in hot form now and looked set for a second century in consecutive fixtures. In the end he had to 'settle' for 68.
Finch - A whopping four catches in the first innings was probably a good omen. Aaron then proceeded to his maiden first-class century for Yorkshire. Bravo.
Pyrah - In the absence of Brezza, Richard excelled in the role of all-rounder, taking three wickets at a cost of 67 runs and recording an excellent sixty-two.
Patterson - SP justified his batting position at number eight with a useful thirty-two. Even more impressive was his five wickets, costing only seventy-six runs.
Sidebottom - This was a fine return to the frontline for Ryan as he took four wickets, at a cost of 66 runs, from 31.3 overs.
Brooks - His bowling figures in either innings were not exactly tidy, but match figures of five wickets, at a cost of 122 runs still represents a good return for Jack.
Carver - Three wickets costing 65 runs, a not out innings, and a catch all add up to a highly satisfactory debut for Karl. Let us hope this is the start of a great career.
