Knight Overcomes Second String Yorkshire
By Gary Watton
July 6 2014
Sheffield-born Thomas Knight smashed an impressive century for Derbyshire second eleven against their Yorkshire equivalents, less than a week after turning 21 years of age. Knight's efforts proved to be decisive as the hosts conquered the visiting Tykes in their fifty-overs Second Eleven Trophy tussle.
For Yorkshire, the economical bowling of Gibson merits commendation, after his eight overs only cost twenty-two runs, while in reply, the century partnership of Dan Hodgson and Jack Leaning did their utmost to achieve a successful run chase. Regrettably, the team folded, from the promising position of 171 for two to 204 for the loss of nine wickets. Ultimately, Derbyshire's decision to bat first was vindicated, but at least three Yorkshire players did themselves justice.
