A Big Century From Hodgson Produces Rampant Win

A patient ton from Dan Hodgson plus a magnificent ten-wicket haul from young Josh Shaw were the obvious highlights as the in-form Yorkshire seconds blew their Durham counterparts away with a formidable innings triumph at Harrogate in the Second Eleven Championship.

The Durham reserve eleven actually won the toss, but they twice failed to muster a sufficient total in the face of an excellent Yorkshire attack, for whom Ben Coad and Matt Fisher also grabbed three wickets each and who also recorded economical bowling spells. Not to be outdone by the considerable efforts of his teammates, James Wainman underlined his all-rounder credentials with an impressive half century, while Ryan Gibson weighed in with a swashbuckling 79, compiled in little more than an hour.

In the end, it proved to be something of a procession for the Tykes as they seek to emulate the consistency and progress of the first eleven. The second eleven can now stride into their remaining fixtures in a busy August, entertaining the real possibility of acquiring one or two items of silverware.
