Seconds Suffer Trouncing
By Gary Watton

Only a commendable last wicket partnership granted a measure of respectability to Yorkshire's puny reply, but the damage had long since been inflicted by high-flying Leicestershire seconds in their Second XI Trophy encounter. In mitigation, the hosts were denied the services of the talented quintet of Fisher, Hodd, Rhodes, Shaw, and Tattersall.
Of those that were required to soldier on, young Carver had a stinker, conceding seventy-two runs from his ten overs, while Callis proved equally inept when it was our turn to bat. What was especially unacceptable was that the visitors were afforded no fewer than seven maiden overs, which is no way to chase a fifty-overs target in excess of 250. Hopefully, the home team will buck up their ideas when they do battle in their three-day contest, albeit with a depleted squad.
