An Awful Capitulation In Shenley
By Gary Watton
August 12 2014
While the first eleven made a decent fist of their tussle avec Essex Eagles, the same could not be said of the second eleven which contrived to produce an abject performance at Shenley against the MCC Young Cricketers. It is such a shame that the Yorkshire seconds should bow out of the Second Eleven Trophy commitments on such a pitiful low. Regrettably nobody in the Yorkshire team delivered a performance of any merit.
Having been asked to bat first, there was no sign of the deluge to come when the misfiring Callis and his partner Hodgson added 31 runs for the first wicket. However, thereafter the away team's next nine wickets were rolled over for exactly one hundred runs. Having terminated the Tykes' innings with twelve overs to spare, the hosts then completed the job with a smooth pursuit of the paltry target of 132, with lots of overs to spare. Let us hope that the second eleven can finish their Second Eleven Championship fixtures in better style than this dreadful surrender.
