Derbyshire Destroyed In One-Sided Triumph

Just occasionally everything goes according to plan, and today emphatically was one such day for the Vikings of Yorkshire. The omens were perhaps quite good when Andrew Gale won the toss, and what a very good toss it was to win! To then bowl Derbyshire out so cheaply and also sprint to the small target with ten wickets to spare was almost tantamount to fantasy cricket.
This match was so heavily weighted in favour of the hosts that the lunch interval was nothing more than a stay of execution for an out of sorts Derbyshire Falcons team. By that stage, the commanding combination of Lees and Lyth (matching each other almost blow for blow) were already virtually halfway to paradise.
Although the roll of honour will undoubtedly be dominated by our two fabulous opening batsmen, not to mention the six wickets that Pyrah and Rashid shared between them, credit must go to the only bowler who took no wickets, young Matt Fisher, who was actually more economical than his more experienced colleagues and who bowled with more control than he did in his last limited overs outing. The decision to rest the prolific Jack Brooks in favour of Matthew was clearly vindicated.
As a consequence of this massacre of the midlanders, Yorkshire have booked themselves a place in the quarter finals of the Royal London One-Day Cup, with one visit to Hampshire next week still to play. Success in that encounter will guarantee a home match in the last eight. In between, the triumphant Tykes can now entertain the dangerous Sussex at the Marine Ground this weekend in the County Championship, with morale high, and hopes of further success equally high. Bring it on.
