Glenn Maxwell Turns Up!

Maxwell Shows Up!
By Gary Watton
June 20 2015

After weeks of considerable under-achievement, Glenn Maxwell belatedly reminded the Yorkshire contingent what he is capable of, as he smashed the Nottinghamshire Outlaws to smithereens, and only time prevented him from a well-deserved century. The recalled Andrew Hodd was equally lethal, sharing in a cracking century stand with Maxwell, and it was good to see him back in the team, in the absence of Jonny Bairstow, who was summoned for England's final one-day shebang avec the New Zealanders.

In the process, the Vikings breathed life into their Twenty20 Blast adventure and need to maintain their free-scoring antics for the visit to the Birmingham Bears on Sunday afternoon. Consistency is important, as alternate hot and cold performances simply won't do. As Jason Gillespie has previously suggested, the bowling 'attack' remains a cause for concern, but we are in the era of heavy scoring in limited overs cricket, so every team is being afflicted with expensive bowling figures.

Unfortunately Gary Ballance failed to make an impression again, although admittedly he had little time to shine. Perhaps a big score is just around the corner for the England maestro.
