Another Limited-Overs Success!

Captain Lees
By Gary Watton
August 3 2015

In the absence of the injured Gary Ballance and Andrew Gale, the stand-in captain Alex Lees led from the front with a fine innings which laid the foundations for a good total from the hosts. On this occasion, Glenn Maxwell could not hit the heights of previous outings, and indeed Yorkshire's innings petered out badly from a position of strength at 198 for two to 277 for nine.

Nevertheless, Leicestershire had a more than competitive target to cope with. Despite the best efforts of Angus Robson, the match's top scorer, his team also slipped away from 159 for two, and a constant ebbing away of wickets, allied with an ascending required run rate left the away team up the creek without a paddle. Young Fisher deserves credit for taking the first wicket and indeed bowling a wicket maiden which arrested Leicestershire's early progress. Special mention should also be granted to Andy Hodd who again contributed to a healthy opening stand with captain Lees. The deputising skipper is appearing to be something of a good luck charm, as his team have now won three contests on the bounce. There are now only two group commitments left to fulfil. One win from either will guarantee the Vikings a place in the last eight, although they could possibly lose both mataches and still qualify for the knockout stages. Basically, ahead of the fixture against Somerset on Wednesday, the Tykes have one foot in the quarter finals.
