Durham CCC sign Mike Hussey for 2005

Durham have confirmed the signin of Australian left handed batsmen Mike Hussey for the 2005 season. Hussey is a proven performer at county level and will be a great help as Durham try to get their championship form back on track next season.

The Australian made it clear that he had received offers from a number of clubs around the country but that it was the setup at Durham that was the most attractive. He saw the move as a 'personal challenge' and was looking forward to the role of the experienced professional and helping in the development of the younger players where possible.

Yet again we see high players attracted to Durham, this time Martyn Moxon believes that Hussey will be available for selection for the whole of the 2005 season unlike the double disaster of Shoaib Akhtar and Hershelle Gibbs that did so much damage to Durham this year.

Durham will be Hussey's third county in as many seasons and success has followed him wherever he has been. This season he helped take Gloucestershire the the C&G title, in his short time at the club Hussey managed 330 runs in eight one day appearances. Prior to this season Hussey spent three years at Northants during which he scored over 5000 first class runs and never averaged under 70.

Hussey will have to wait to see if he will be playing first or second division league cricket next season but whatever happens he should be a great asset to the club.
