The Old Codgers Summer quiz 2010

So we start what is a diversion and a poor substitute for rugby gossip and trenchant opinions on the great game during the close season. This year the quiz is intended to be a collective effort with contributions welcome from all and sundry - so long as they are submitted through our esteemed editors.

If I may - a word or to for those setting questions .  In this techno age  it is quite difficult to set questions where a determined googler cannot find the answer relatively easily .  The antidote to this is not necessarily to set questions that are so tricky and draw on such obscure and arcane knowledge  that one ends up wondering  whether the questioner  ever intended any normal reasonably informed person to arrive at the answer.

Indeed I have already seen some questions that I think can only be answered by taking the same route through google as the questioner in their quest for the obscure. By all means use the web to check your facts  but  let us try to set questions that at least in the first instance derive from our own knowledge and experience .

The intention is to post the weeks questions on the Friday or Saturday  and provide the answers towards the end of the following week.

We will try to keep to a reasonable number of questions  each week  and some submissions will be held over for those weeks when  I and others are running out of ideas.
