SE Asia/Pacific 2026 T20 WC Super 6's Day 2

Day 2 of the Super 6's after an excellent first one.  The start is later today and there are only 2 matches.  The BIG one is the all Arab derby between Oman and UAE this afternoon.  They play each other a lot and UAE have won the last 4 but this one has a BIG prize at the end of it so who knows.  Nepal play Qatar this evening and a win would as good as confirm them as one of the 3 sides going to the WC in India next year.

Game 4 Super 6s - Oman v UAE @ Turf 1 Al Amerat Oman Monday 13 October 2025

After the results of yesterday, this game has taken on an extra special significance for both sides.  A third Super 6 win for Oman would give them a position which ought to mean they would be one of the top 3 sides in this 9 nation event.  On the other hand the UAE must have been shaken by their one run loss to Nepal yesterday afternoon and will want to get back to winning ways imediately before they get left behind.

The Omani side for this game is;

Jatinder Singh(c), Aamir Kaleem, Hammad Mirza, Mohammad Nadeem, Vinayak Shukla(w), Aryan Bisht, Jiten Ramanandi, Sufyan Mehmood, Nadeem Khan, Shah Faisal, Shakeel Ahmed

No changes to a side wining its games makes sense

Emirates have won the toss and will bat first so Waseem and Jonathan Figy are out in the middle to face Shah Faisal for the first over.  A couple of deliveries to get the feel and then?  Figy is out caught for 0 by Aryan Bisht and UAE are 0 for 1 after 3 balls.  Not the start they wanted as their hero from yesterday Sharafu comes out to take his place.  He shows the Omani bowler that he is NOT to be messed with by sending him for the first six of the game before the end of the over and UAE move to 8 for 1 after 1

Shakeel Ahmed bowls the first from the Pavilion end and the same thing happens!  Three balls in the bowler has Sharafu LBW and UAE are 9 for 2.  Chopra arrives and shows the bowling his mettle by hitting a four from the second ball he faces!! 

The two UAE bats now have a reconstruction job to do as their initial match plan must be in tatters.  As the next few overs pan out the Omanis push the buttons and the Emiratis look for holes in the field.  First Faisal keeps them honest in the third and Ahmed also gets a second with the fourth,by which time the match has settled a little and the score as moved on to 16 for 2 but the Omani bowlers are keeping a tight control on the runs.  So much so that Faisal gets the 5th as well and as we move towards the end of the 'Powerplay' overs with the first bowling pair still in tandem the score shifting to 28 for 2.

Sufyan Mehmood is the first change in the 7th and the get no real change out of him either as he only allows them to move to 31.  For the 8th Nadeem Khan starts his bowling session and he gets more success as Chopra is caught behind at 34 for 7 from 13.  In comes Irfan and the new pair hold the line into the 40s and to the 10 over break for drinks.  Mehmood only goes for 6 from his 2 overs and Naseem Khan has done even better with 7 for 1 from his! So the pressure is very much still on  It has been a strong bowling effort from the 'Red Machine' so far in this game.

The second half of this innings has to be better if the UAE hopes to set any kind of target for the home side to chase.  It isn't helped when Waseem is out for 22 from 35 in the 11th at 48 for 4 which brings Kaushik to the middle and he and Irfan reach 50 in the 12th off the bowling of Bisht.  They look to push on but fall over another hurdle in the 14th when the introduction of Ramanadi results in the departure of Irfan caught by Kaleem for 11 from 14 at 61 for 5... the wickets just keep on falling!  Parashar comes to the crease but time is moving on.

63 for 5 at he end of the 13th becomes 67 for 5 at the end f th 14th.  The UAE just can't pierce the outfield and Ranandi keeps the press going in the 15th 75 for 5 with 30 balls to go.

Khan bowls out with the 16th and finishes with an excellent 1 for21  Sufyan follows himwith the 17th and e adds a wicket when he gets Kaushik for 19 from 18 at 92 for  6. He is run out by Aamir Kaleem but the result is the sae.  Sufyan finishes his 4 with 1 for 20 and the Emirates go into the last ver ithout 3 figures n the bard as Faisalb returns from the Mountain end.  Ali changes that with the first four of the over to move the score to 102.  He follows this up with another to go to 106 and he gets another one before the end and finishes on 18 from 12 while his Partner Parashar is run out off the last ball for 17 from 20

With that score one would suggest that this is Oman's game to lose.  Let's see if they can manage it!!

Jatinder Singh and Aamir Kaleem open for the home side once again against the bowling of Junaid Siddique and Haider Ali  They fare better that at the start of the last innings because they are still there after the first two overs.  They have scored 10 runs.  They are both still there after the first four overs all bowled by the same pair and they have moved the score on to 29 looking for 113 to win.  With 1 leg bye, they both have the same score as well of 14.

With 2 fours from Singh in the 6th bowled by Rohid Khan they move to 43 at the end of the 'Powerplay' without loss.  That changes in the next Parashar  over when Kaleem goes caught by Haider Ali without adding to his score of 14 from and over ago.  It is 43 for 1 and Nadeem comes to the crease.  He helps move the score to 47 before the next over from Kaushik starts.  Oman have pushed the score to 50 by the end of the 8th from a Jatinder single. 

Haider Ali takes the 9th and only gives away 2 runs and at 53 they losde their second wicket as Kaushik dismisses Sigh in the 10 without adding to that score. The Omani captain is caught by Waseem for 33 from 23 with 4 fours and he is replaced at the crease by Mirza who helps his side reach 56 at the 10 over point. Almost exactly halfway to their desired total with 8 wickets in hand.

At the end of the 11th they have progressed to 59 against Haider Ali and they make the same slow progress to 63 against Kaushik in the 12th.  They now need exactly 50 for the win.  It's 46 after the over from Irfan.  But the UAE have the press on and progress is slow. Kaushik bowls out with the 14th (4 overs 1 for 15) and they move the runs required to 41 from 36.  They are running the singles but they aren't doubling them up or getting the boundaries that would put this game away.

The one time they try to push it, they choose the wrong possible 2 and after Nadeem called for it Mirza sends him back and he is run out at 76 for 3.  In comes Shukla with his side needing 37 from 5 overs. Mirza then tries to go over the top and is caught in the deep at 78 for 4 and for 14 from 20 off the bowling of Zahid Ali.

This brings Ramanandi to the crease with a crisis, still needing 35 from 27 balls with zero momentum being created. They seem to have no plan and when they try they find a fielder.  Ramanandi holes out trying to score more than 1 and they now need 34 from 21 at 79 for 5.  In comes Nadeem Khan the fans have to hope he has been given some kind of plan to break out of the fugue they find themselves in.  He at least hits a boundary and it's 29 from 18.  Shukla is suprisingly quiet in all this.  You would have expected him to be the man to bring this one home.  Seems not.

Khan meanwhile hits a six off Zahid to bring the score down.  It is still a kind of 'swish and hope' plan, there's no particular plan to get these runs other than hit the ball hard over a boundary somewhere.  He does however do it again with the next ball and it is now it is 17 from 12 with Siddique bowling out at 97 for 5.  How do you get here when you were 50 odd for 1 with 60 balls left?

A wide and a single brings it down and another single takes it to 100 but they still need 13 and time is running out quickly and they keep taking the singles. A dot just about sums it up as the bat wimps out of a ramp shot and gets nothing on the ball.

Irfan can win this for his side.  A wide starts the over though it was more a misbowl with the bowler apologising. 11 from 6.  A dot makes up for it.  11 from 5. A four through the fielder makes it 7 from 4.  A six changes the game.  A squirted single takes it with 2 balls left

Oman made that really really hard!!!  Other sides will look at that and think that Oman under pressure are a side you can beat.  Make them think twice about things and you have them on the backfoot.  Nevertheless that is their third win in this tournamen and points still mean prizes.  UAE once more come so close but fail again and are now 3 games down with 1 win to their name.  They are the prey that sides like Japan, Qatar and Samoa may see as their way into a berth in India. Shukla ends with 3 but Khan save his coucntry's embarrassment with 30 from16 when Oman really needed them.

Man of the Match - Nadeem Khan

Game 5 Super 6's - Nepal v Qatar @ Turf 1 Al Amerat Oman Monday 13 October 2025

Nepal have the chance tonight to join Oman as on of the Super 6 nations that have yet to lose in this event.  They have victories over Japan and UAE in yesterday's nailbiter.  Qatar have yet to get any points in this part of the series because their one win in the tournament so far was not against a Super 6 side (PNG).  So one side can go a long way to booking their place in India in 2026 while the other can put itself on a par with UAE on one victory looking to fight for the last of the three places.  They are up against probably the best allround team in this event tonight so it won't be easy but there have been all kinds of surprises and stuff already ion the last week so who knows what might happen.

Qatar have won the toss and have opted to bowl first.

This means Baig and Farooq  face Bhurtle and Sheikh  for the first time and it is a fairly decent barttle in the first two overs.  2 from the first becomes more from the second with fours from both bats but in the third Bhurtel is dismissed by Baig and the hands of Liyanage for 6 from 8 withonly 1 four which has to be on the want list of any opposition.  It brings the captain Paudel in and puts the game on a different playing level if the bat did not get going before he was sent back.

After 4 from the bowling pair the score is 25 for 1.

In the 5th, bowled by Baig, Aasif Sheik looks to drive and seems to have missed the shot.  The whole Qatar field go up but it's uncertain whether they think he hit it or are trying it on.  After what seems like and age, the umpire gives him out caught behind.  Not sure myself - too far away for noise but it's the reason we now have referrals to take away the question of 'gamesmanship'.  Whatever happens, Malla is in and the game goes on.  Nepal are 37 for 2 after 5.

The bowling of Asim takes the game to the 'Powerplay' end and 33 for 2 is the Nepal score.  Rehman's arm takes us past it and a six from Malla from his final ball takes the batting side into the 40s.  Owais Ahmed comes into the attack for the 8th.  The same bat tries the same shot, doesn't get all of it, gets it too close to the bowler and he is caught and bowled at 49 for 3.  Dipenar Singh Airee comes out to get a taste of cricket against Qatar.  The 50 arrives in this over as Airee gets off the mark.  He then hits his first boundary to the joy of the Nepalese crowd who have been a bit subdued up until now.

At 10 overs it is 60 for 3 with Airee on a run a ball 9 and his captain on 24 from 21.

Louis is introduced for the 11th and his first ball goes for four from Paudel's bat.  Rehman has the 12th and it is all shots and scrambling about and stuff like that. Paudel takes his side into the 90s with a 6 in to the GULF it is so long. He takes Nepal to 98 with a falling over ramp for 4 and then reaches 50 himself from 35 balls at 99. To get the 100 they pressurise the fielder by looking for 2 and in the panic the keeper misses the collection and they get 3.  He ramps again in the 15th and he gets four again.  THIS is how you acquire runs.  NEVER let the fielders settle.  It needs the willingness to take risks and a faith in your own ability but I suppose that is how you get to captain your country.

Airee falls to such a risk at the end of the 15th caughty by Zubair Ali at 110 for 28 from 22 and in comes Alam to finish off the 15th.

5 overs to go, are they looking at 150?  Ahmed is certainly making them wary. But Louis in the 17th might be seen as a possible for runs.  Alam goes for him and smashes the ball straight back into the bowlers hands and goes  caught and bolwed  for 2 at 114 for 5.  Next in  Gulsan Jha but he only spends 1 ball in the company of his captain as he is dismissed by Louis, bowled at 115 for 6 and in comes Jora.  He is only in for 3 balls before he is bowled by Asim in the 18th and in comes Sompal Kami.  They finish the 18th at 120 for 7

Baig is back for the 19th and Kami hits him for six,  then Jha does the same  and the 150 is possibly back on at 134 for 7.  However the bowler comes back and sends Jha on his way bowled and brings in Yadav with 8 balls to go at 134 for 8.  Baig bowls out with another good spell of 3 for 29.  Kami looks for a six but it is short, it bounces in front of the fielder running in.  The fielders seems to decide that the boundary guy did not come in fast enough so they change the field and Kami hits the next one directly at the new fielder who is significantly shorter and it goes over his head.

They come up short of the 150 by 4 at 146 for 8 with Yadav on 1 from 2 and Kami on 14 from 9

Liyanage and Zubair Ali open for Qatar against the bowling of Airee from the Pavilion and Kami from the Mountain end.  They take 7 from the first and move to 15 aftyer the second.  The Nepalese fielding is on overdrive.  You get no time to consider anything as they are on the ball immediately and it is heading back to the middle.

As the 5th starts from Yadav, Qatar have moved to 30 for 0 with both bats seeming to have their eye in.  They move it to 46 for 0 thanks to 14 from Liyanage off the bowler. The 50 arrives in the 6th courtesy of another Liyanage  boundary and they progress to 53 before the ball is thrown to the skipper for the 7th.

By the time Paudel bowls again they have progressed to 66 for 0 with Liyanage eyeing up a 50 which he reaches at 53 from 31 with another boundary in the 9th at 74 for 0.  They start the 10th at that point with Lamichhane taking over bowling duties.  But with the last ball of the first half of the innings things change as the dangerous Liyanage is out for 56 from 35 at 79 for 1. He has been the main painin Nepal's side and it will be interesting to see if anyone can take over and take this game home as the Arab side need 69 from 60 and earlier today Oman made very heavy work of a lesser target, getting it by the skin of their teeth with 2 balls to go. Qatar do have rthe wickets in hand however and it remains to be seen whether that makes a difference.

Qatar don't seem to be waiting around as they move to 90 for 1 from the first 4 balls of the 11th from Paudel.  By the end of the over Asim and Zubair Ali  have taken the runs needed down to 56 from 54.  Lamichhane continues to be the bowler looking to stop this progress. Ali has gone to ground at the end of the two runs from the 3rd.  After a conference he is back on his feet and seems to be looking to carry on though he is walking a little stiffly.  But the man who is soon out is Asim who Lamichhane gets LBW at 97 for 10 from 4 at the end of the 11th.  51 from 8 overs is now the task in front of Ali and the new man Baig against a barrage of noise from the Nepalese in the stands. Alam takes the 13th and the 100 arrives.

The runs required is still over a run a ball but they do seem far more determined to stay in close touch with the score required.  Qatar are running twos where Oman ran singles and stopped the second. You have to run twoas and take the fielder's arm on and risk he may be good enough.

with 7 to go they need 43 from 42 but they say goodbye to their biggest worry Mohammed Baig with the first ball of the 14th for only 2.  In comes Tanveer and the problems are still there just a little easier to deal with.

Yadav sends the next ball in, it is flipped out and the single is on but the fielder pounces on the ball and with 1 stump to aim for he runs out the striker before he is halfway down the wicket. It was not a poor single, it was superb fielding. 105 for 4. Tanveer goes and Jamil arrives.  

This has put a kink in the Qatar plan and they now need 40 from 33 but the game is still on as Zubair is still there and just to emphasise the fact he puts one over the off side fence and moves his side to 114 for 4. With 5 to go it is 117 for 4 so they need 31 from 30 balls and this chase is most definitely still on.

At 122 in the 17th it swings again as Jamil goes with Ali on 49 and in comes Munir.  Yadav is causing havoc with nerves in the stands on both sides. 25 from 23 and Yadav bowls Munir first ball  123 for 6.  25 needed from 22 balls.  Louis is the next "gladiator" in the "arena".  

128 for 7 with with 2 to go and Qatar only have 3 wickets left after Louis went in the last one.  They need 20 from 12 and have lost a wicket from the first in the 19th. 128 for 8 and they need 20 from 11 with Rehman in and Ali gone at exactly the wrong time.  It's another Nepalese "down to the wire" games as Farooq joins his bowling team mate needing 19 from 10.

Yadav is bowling the 19th, his last over and he already has 2 for 20.  The ball is a wide and so the runs required falls to 18 from 10.  Another wide and it's 17 from 10. Rehman flips the next one for four and it is 13 from 9 at 135 for 8. A dot makes it 13 from 8. Another wide and its 12 from 8. They go for 2 and get them 10 from 7.  An attempted ramp does not come off and it is a dot ball.  So one over left and the runs required are 10 from 6.

The last over will be bowled by Sandeep and Farooq will be on strike. The first is a dot, the second is a dot - the wrong man is on strike.  He is bowled by the third and it is down to 10 from 3 and the last man in on strike.  No wonder this lot are called the 'Cardiac Kids'.

Owais Ahmed is the last man in at 138 for 9.  He gets the single and they need 9 from 2.  This has to go for at least four.  They get 2.  7 from 1 or 6 to tie.  Rehman is on strike and he can do this.  He bowls a wide but Rehman  is stumped and they have done it again.  They win by they win by 5.
