Mike Burns hits a ton but doesn't reach the score that we lose by! Despite his best efforts, we go down by 110 to the Dragons and lose our hold on the top clubs in the CC2 table. When will all the fun end?

And it says 'hammered' on it again - beaten by 110 runs in a Championship game that we really needed to win. We have been here so many times before and there seems no solution to the malaise that is infecting the Somerset side. The news gets worse as another bowler joins the injury list and the prospects of promotion in any league look flimsy at best. The Championship was the one light in the darkness and we now seem incapable of keeping up with the big boys here either.
With a lead in the first innings courtesy of our inabillity to bowl them out and our inability to match their score, we then allowed them to reach 307 in their second innings to give us a target over 400 with a day and a half to go. We did try. Bowler hit 49, we did pass 50 with only the loss of Matt Wood for a change. Usually when that happens we settle down for a good score. Bryant held up one end but can't seem to score in flowing terms and after 50 balls he'd reached 7 before he was bowled by Kasprowicz. Jamie Cox added 24, one of 4 batsmen who passed 20 but didn't pass 30. But no-one stayed with Mike Burns as he provided the mainstay of our reply with 106. Blackwell with 10, Laraman with 21 and Dutch with 30 all suggested a big partnership but it never materialised and when Laraman went at 228, the wickets fell regularly at 247, 263, 294 and 313. It just keep breaking up the momentum. Who ran the captain out only people there can tell but we do that a lot as well when someone is in the groove.
In the end we fell well short, Alex Wharf got 4 for 90 and we lost the plot again. 'The only way is up' was a hit for someone once and it is becoming the Sabre's theme tune - partly because it is difficult to see how it we can get any lower than where we are now. Kevin has to go into tomorrow's match at Southgate without Simon Francis and possibly Aarron Laraman - he may get Johnno back but it it doubtful after he left the field today with a re-occurance of the groin strain he sustained last week. Our oone day form has been woeful and we have a weaker bowling attack than that which has been ineffective up to now.
We have to keep looking for the good things, Burnsy got a ton and Nixon took 9 in the game but we need some luck and we need some wins and I can't see where the second of those is coming from with the lack of the first we have had up to now!
On to Middlesex and Janet Davis - have a good one boys and girls who are going. We expect reports on the game and the interval festivities with the outfield game and the cakes. Watch for tranquilizers and psychotic ladies from Middlesex!!
