No captain tonight for us in a game that could effectively end our meaningful involvement in this year's T20 competition. Pretty toothless losses at Taunton have put us down the table and Hants could well put us beyond recall tonight. Temperatures in the mid 20's should make it a torrid affair

To get into the next stage of the Blast! this year is an uphill stuggle for Somerset after a bad first half of the competition with insipid home performances to boot. The loss of Lewis Gregory in the middle of the matches did not help and now the skipper has a niggle and will not take part in the game tonight. Chris Jones comes into the squad which is under the control of James Hildreth tonight. The squad is;
Jones, Kieswetter, Trego, Hildreth, Petersen, Meschede, Dockrell, Overton C, Thomas, Myburgh, Nannes, Waller, Overton J
One would expect that one of the spinners and Jamie will probably sit this one out and probably Johann will open with Craig? The side welcome back Craig Meschede after his injury layoff. James will be expecting lots from him with bat and ball as discussion this week has been related to developing his role as the one day fiinisher in the next few seasons - starting here.
Andy Nash has predicted a 7000+ crowd for this Friday night game. It won't include me because I am preparing to move UK way from the Middle East as I write this so I expect the boys to keep our slim chances of qualifying open for little while longer. It will be interesting to see if James' plans, if he wins the toss, will vary from Banger's usual decision to put the other lot in at home.
There may be more later but I'm sure the forum population will keep you informed as the game goes on

Great exciting match, pity about the dropped catches, and ones that we would take with ease, but we won.
Certainly like the batting order,and the team selection and I also think James captained well.
Good crowd and well behaved, 6812 according to the club site.
Seems Glamorgan and Kent had a cliffhanger at Cardiff also.

That's 4 games at taunton and all won by batting first, TRES PLEASE TAKE NOTE!
Great game, few ups/downs but got there in the end.
2 from 5 looks slightly better, if we can make it 3 from 6 after Sunday then we are back in the mix.
Liking Mesch at 5, approve of that.
Still not sure where Myburgh fits in, I like him, but if he's batting 7 & below and not bowling I'm not sure what we want from him.

Sounded like a magnificent batting effort by Pete...which was very nearly undermined by an execrable fielding performance.
I heard we dropped FIVE catches.....which, in 20 overs, would equate to nearly 25 drops in a day of CC cricket!!

There was Trego off a skier (I say it was CK catch but he stood still and let Tregs take it.
Next ball was deep square leg, a poor drop, Jones was it?
Earlier again at deep square was a misjudgement, came in too far, tried to go back but could only fingertip it over the rope.
Not sure where others were?
Mesch first ball at short fine leg was not a chance, it rocketied straight past him, not even time to put out a hand.

He normally swallows those with ease.
Alviro on Square leg Boundary, missed One catch, and had misjudged one earlier
One caught a bowled missed (Overton or Meschede)hard chance juggled.
Not sure remember any others.
Hampshire dropped two or three.

I don't remember that one LoL,the one I quoted was a bowler from the OP end.
The club twitter account quotes it being Meschede.

What a day we do make it hard for ourselves.
I remember three dropped catches and we should have had a run-out, never mind we won and that's what counts.
How Peter Trego dropped this catch I will never know he is such a good fielder normally, the sun was behind him, I have a photo before this one where Peter is holding his hands ready to catch the ball. I will take the runs he scored anyway.
Chris Jones intended to get on with it by the look at the way he batted but he missed this ball from Chris Wood.
The best crowd so far this is the temporary stand.
Craig Kieswetter is going to hit this ball for a six.
It took a good catch by Kyle Abbott to get Craig K out off the bowling of James Vince.
This is what you call a full toss to Peter Trego, Matt Coles had a warning from the umpire.
This is what happens when you give yourself too much room, Peter Trego bowled by Kyle Abbott.
Craig Meschede also gave himself too much room but he was luckier than Peter T.
A good low down catch by the captain JH from James Vince a wicket for Peter Trego.
The umpires will never warn Dirk Nannes of running on the pitch, Glenn Maxwell wondered where he was going.
Craig Kieswetter claiming a catch to dismiss Glenn Maxwell off Max Waller, he could have stumped him anyway.
Craig Overton yorker to Owais Shah.
Craig Overton and Max Waller had the best ecom. of our bowlers.
I would say this should have been one of the easiest caught and bowled to Craig Meschede from Sean Ervine, but it wasn't taken.
Alfonso Thomas bowling to Sean Ervine, not easy photography with the low sun, the shadows are a mile long (well almost)

Same squad for tomorrow at Arundel, 2.30pm.
Tres still sidelined (very wise, no point rushing him back before next Sunday)
Can only assume same 11, Jove yet to play a one day game this season and Myburgh seems to be getting chance above George, not that we've seen him bat or bowl yet in a T20!

I'm not unhappy to see GD not playing too much one-day stuff. Let Myburgh bowl his flat stuff rather than having GD's flight potentially affected for CC games by bowling too much in one-day stuff.

Isn't it more Max getting a chance instead of George? Johann would probably play instead of Nick in one day games as a bat. He wasn't the premier spinner last night was he?
