Vitality T20 Knockout Round 3 Somerset v Durham at Exmouth

The Women enter the Vitality T20 County Cup knockout in Round 3 today against Durham at Exmouth. This is the 'other' T20 where Tier 2 and 3 teams enter early and overseas players are not allowed to play. The Final will be at Taunton

As this is on the same day as the CC1 game at Taunton I'm not sure what I will cover but here is the match centre/preview
For those of you unsure how this competition is organised here you go
Unfortunately Somerset lost it on a Super Over after needing 3 from the last over, facing 5 dot balls and then only managing to run 2 off the last ball to tie the game.

Bit cruel making Durham go even further than Taunton ! And for a 2020 too.
Maybe Durham’s team are train enthusiasts and wanted to use the penultimate running of the Aberdeen to Penzance train yesterday. Only going as far as Plymouth in future.
Off topic, I know, but I’m still traumatised by my experiences with Cross Country on my trips to Somerset.

Just back.
Somerset did really well to restrict Durham to a below par 124-9 with Charlie Dean outstanding 4-0-12-4. At the interval there were high hopes of victory reinforced an early onslaught from Bex Odgers (39 in 18 balls ) which meant at 54-1(6) hosts were well ahead of run rate. The much vaunted middle order then froze against spin duo Villiers and Levick and along with a series of desperate shots conspired to leave Alex Griffiths with the tail and overs running out. A series of boundaries in penultimate over left Griffiths on strike with 3 runs to win off final over. Bizarrely 5 dots followed and as a hush descended in the crowd the last ball was struck to the boundary fielder who fumbled and allowed a second run so a tie!! On to the super over Somerset scored 8 for 2 - not enough as the visitors raced to 9 for 0 in 3 balls and thereby triumphed. Lovely evening, crowd about 4-500, lovely setting on the seafront at Exmouth but once again too many Somerset players failed to perform. Pre season I criticised the transposed failed Western Storm set up and believe a real shake up is required both on and off the pitch. Some players are living off past glory and there is a real need for new blood.
It was also really noticeable how badly the ineligible Amanda Jade Wellington was missed and the absence of international players in forthcoming games will hopefully allow some breakthrough opportunities.

I followed the game from afar and it seemed to me that the game was bound to be won until Odgers was our, whereupon everything sounded rather feeble.
Punishment, perhaps, for holding the match so far from Durham, who should arrange for the next match against Somerset to be played at Berwick on Tweed.
